Focus Group Discussion (FGD): Preparing the Kuala Langat District Climate Adaptation Blueprint

Pahang, 5 November 2025 – The Selangor Climate Adaptation Centre (SCAC) was invited by the Kuala Langat Municipal Council (MPKL) to participate in a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) aimed at developing the Kuala Langat District Blueprint on Climate Adaptation.

During the session, Mr. Daniel Lee Marn Zhi, Executive Director of SCAC, delivered an insightful presentation on the Selangor State Climate Change Policy and the Centre’s role in driving adaptation efforts across the state.

He highlighted how policy, science, and collaboration work hand in hand to ensure Selangor remains at the forefront of climate resilience.

“Adaptation starts with understanding. Once we understand our vulnerabilities, we can plan smarter and act faster together,” shared Encik Daniel.

Interactive Simulation: Building a Sustainable Kuala Langat

Adding an engaging twist to the discussion, Mr. Daniel facilitated an interactive simulation exercise. Participants comprising around 50 Kuala Langat municipal officers were divided into groups and tasked with designing sustainable developments for their respective areas.

Through the simulation, they were challenged to balance infrastructure growth, environmental conservation, and community well-being, mirroring the real-world complexities of urban planning under climate pressures.

The activity not only encouraged creative problem-solving but also strengthened awareness of how sustainability can be embedded in day-to-day planning and governance.

Research Presentation on Selangor’s Climate Future

The session also featured a presentation by Pn. Aznie Rahim, Research Officer, who shared research findings on Selangor’s climate change projections and her case study on the Mah Meri Indigenous Tribe in Kuala Selangor.

Her study illustrated how rising temperatures, unpredictable weather patterns, and coastal changes directly affect local communities, particularly those whose lives and livelihoods are closely tied to nature.

The research sets the tone that climate adaptation is not only about policy and infrastructure, but also about protecting the people and cultures most at risk.

A Step Toward a More Resilient Kuala Langat

The FGD marked an important milestone in the ongoing effort to integrate climate adaptation into district-level planning.

By combining policy discussions, scientific research, and experiential learning, the session successfully built momentum toward the creation of the Kuala Langat Climate Adaptation Blueprint, a guide that will help the district prepare for future challenges while safeguarding its natural and cultural heritage.
