Electronic waste, or e-waste, includes devices and electrical products that are no longer working or reaching the end of their useful life. When disposed of improperly, e-waste can release hazardous materials like lead, nickel, chromium and other heavy metals that contaminate soil, water, and the air we breathe.
But e-waste is more than just a disposal challenge. It is also a valuable resource stream. Inside every discarded device are materials that can be recovered, recycled, and returned to the economy, reducing the need for new raw materials and supporting a more circular, sustainable future.
In Malaysia, e-waste is regulated under Scheduled Waste (SW 110) in the Environmental Quality (Scheduled Wastes) Regulations 2005, ensuring proper handling and responsible recovery for long-term environmental protection.
